Adopting Your New Family Member

Our Adoption Policy

We are grateful to be PetSmart Charities adoption partners at the Lakewood PetSmart – zip code 14750. We always have kittens/cats available for adoption at this location and they can be seen during business hours.

Adopt Your New Family Member in 3 Simple Steps

  1. Fill out our application: https://form.jotform.com/221405777736058,
    • Read it carefully and fill it out completely.
    • Paper versions are available at the Lakewood PetSmart.
  2. Complete a brief phone interview, and
    • We check vet references. If you are a first-time parent and don’t have a vet reference, we will ask you to provide follow-up documentation. Additionally, we can help you find a veterinarian.
  3. Once approved, a time will be arranged for individuals to meet and/or adopt a new family member, at PetSmart or at the rescue.

Important Information to Know:

  • Once your application is approved and the adoption is complete, the application serves as the ADOPTION CONTRACT. It is the contractual agreement between you, as the new parent and Lakewood Kitten Rescue. Most importantly, it’s the commitment you have made to your new family member. Per the contract, we do follow up. You are expected to be reachable and kindly return our calls in a timely manner.
  • Adoptions at the Lakewood PetSmart can be completed and picked up directly from that location with the help of one of the associates.
  • All kittens/cats must be picked up in a proper carrier in good condition. We do not allow use of cardboard carriers (unless pre-discussed) for safety. We highly recommend a hard carrier, NOT a mesh one with a strap and zippers or Velcro.

Adoption is one of the ultimate gifts you can give an animal, regardless of species. It will bring you some of the greatest joy and companionship ever!

It is also a lifelong commitment you make to THEM and one to be taken seriously. Please be sure you are equipped to bring in new family member(s) and the responsibilities that come with them.
